CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Redlands baseball team (7-8) trailed 7-0 heading into the seventh inning before scoring five times in that inning, but their rally would fall short as they lost 7-5 in the series finale at Hendrix College.
Down 7-0 in the top of the seventh Amani Wilson reached on an error ahead of Karlsen Drake who singled through the left side.
Aziz Bishop then doubled home Wilson and Drake for the Bulldogs first two runs of the game.
Mateo Carresi, Nevan Namgoong, and Dylan Andrews reached safely on a single, a walk, and a second single which set up Eddy Stone with the bases loaded.
Stone drew a walk for the third run and with Kanan Treece at the plate a wild pitch allowed Namgoong to score to cut the deficit to three. Treece ended up grounding out to second, which allowed Andrews to score and cut the lead down to two heading into the bottom of the seventh.
In the eighth Drake and Carresi were stranded as the tying runs. Their final opportunity came in the ninth with the tying run at the plate with two outs after an error extended the game, but another ground out ended the game.
On the mound Nolan Espinosa got two outs in the fifth without allowing a run. Then Tate Keddington went two innings with one earned run and Bishop finished off a scoreless eighth.
Redlands returns to the west coast as they begin a three-game series with No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer at home at The Yard on Friday at 2 p.m.
