Redlands Baseball opens 2026 with road SCIAC win at Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. – The University of Redlands Baseball team opened their 2026 season with an 8-6 road Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win at Whittier College Friday afternoon thanks to a four-run eighth inning.

The Bulldogs got off to a nice 2-0 start in the second when Jesse Bullard (Riverside, CA) singled home Mason Chetcuti (Redwood City, CA) followed by Bubba Correra (Redlands, CA) driving in Bullard.

Whittier, though, responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at two. Anthony Thomas (Moreno Valley, CA) and Bullard would get the lead right back in the third with a sacrifice fly to center and another RBI single.

A Poet triple and RBI ground out in the bottom of the third once again tied the game this time at four. Whittier then took a 5-4 lead into the sixth with a based loaded passed ball.

After failing to score for the fourth consecutive inning in the seventh, Redlands came out in the eighth and pushed across four runs. Bullard got things going with a solo shot to left.  After a Tanner Gerosa (Huntington Beach, CA) walk and a sacrifice bunt from Correa Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA) porched one to left center giving the Bulldogs a 7-5 lead. Nate Miller (San Jose, CA) then added an insurance run with a single up the middle that scored Tyler Barsness (Palm Desert, CA) who reached prior on a double to left center.

Brett Edwards (Santa Monica, CA), who pitched the final 3.2 innings earning the win, was able to work around two batters with a strike out, sacrifice fly, and another strike out to end the game.  Joe Godoy (Los Angeles, CA) got the start and went 5.1 Innings giving up five runs on five hits, while striking out six.

The Bulldogs host the final two games of the series with the Poets on Saturday, February 7 with first pitch of game one of the doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. inside The Yard.
