Box Score 2 REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team opened up their 2026 season Saturday taking down both Ottawa University, AZ (4-0) and Stanton University (5-2) inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
Match 1 (Ottawa University; W, 4-0)
The Bulldogs opened things up against the Spirit sweeping doubles to go in front 1-0—winning at all three spots. No.1 duo
Maegan Deng (Torrance, CA) and
Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) rolled with a quick 6-0 win. They were followed by
Sophia Truong (Arleta, CA) and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) winning 6-3 at No. 2. The last point came from
Eve Laurent (Portland, OR) and
Sofia Ganshirt (Santa Clarita, CA) who
wrapped things up 7-5 at No. 3.
The momentum carried over into singles with the Maroon and Grey taking the next three matches to clinch the victory against Ottawa. Laurent grabbed the second point for the Bulldogs due to a retirement after she took the opening set 6-0. Whalen then rolled at No. 2 grabbing the third point for the U of R winning 6-1, 6-2.
Maisy Reynoso (El Paso, TX) then clinched the match for the Bulldogs winning 6-3,6-0 at No. 3.
The three unfinished matches due to the clinch were No.1 Deng 6-4,4-3, No.4
Hadley Allaria (Kirkwood, MO) 2-6, 5-3, and No.5
Jasmine Sheets (Hesperia, CA) 6-3,4-2.
Match 2 (Stanton University; W, 5-2)
The second match on the day the Bulldogs again swept the doubles point going up early against Stanton. Again, No.1 Deng
and Whelan rolled in with a quick 6-0 win. Soon after, the No.2 doubles team of Reynoso and Allaria would take their match 6-2. The last match on was at No. 3 with Truong and Kumar putting up a tough fight but falling 6-4.
Rolling into singles, Deng at No.1 had yet another efficient win 6-1,6-1. Allaria had a solid win at No. 6 6-3,7-6 and Kumar clinched the fourth point at No. 5 with a 6-4, 7-6 victory. Reynoso at No.3 put up a battle but would fall in straights 6-4,6-3 giving Stanton their first point. The last two matches on were Whelan at No. 2 and Truong at No. 4. Whelan pushed through with a 6-4,6-4 win giving UR their fifth point. Truong looked like she would finish things off with a win after taking the first set 6-3 and leading 5-0 in the second but would see her opponent roll off six straight games before forcing a third-set breaker following a 7-6 second set win. That extra frame would go to Stanton as they would mount the comeback for their second point.
Redlands returns to the court Monday, February 16 when they host Bates College beginning at 4:00pm.
