LOS ANGELES – The University of Redlands softball team (16-4, 5-1) defeated Occidental College 11-4 and 6-0 Saturday as they completed the series sweep of the Tigers.
Game 1: Redlands 11 – Occidental 4
The Bulldogs got all the runs they would need in the third as they plated six. Katlyn Gandara singled and drove in two, Jenay Scott also singled and the final three runs came off a two-run triple by Adyson Kim before Maya Holshoe singled Kim home for a 6-0 advantage in the third.
Scott and Holshoe got RBIs in the fifth before the Tigers responded with three in the bottom half.
The final three runs came in the sixth for Redlands. Natalie Lowthers got an RBI after being hit with the bases loaded, Kim walked with the bases still full, and Holshoe had her third hit and RBI.
At the top of the order Brooklyn Bard singled twice and walked twice. Gandara and Holshoe added three hits each while Leila Gomez chipped in a pair of hits.
Paige Ellinger went four scoreless to get her fourth win while Emma Swenson and Brianna Garcia combined for three innings with only one earned run allowed.
Game 2: Redlands 6 – Occidental 0
The bulldogs used a three-run third and sixth innings to secure the shutout.
Bard tripled to center and scored on an error at short for the first run before a double from Gandara and a single from Kim made it 3-0.
In the sixth, Gandara put the game away with a three-run home run to right center, scoring Bard and Saya Fujii.
Gandara got her eighth win thanks to five scoreless innings. Ellinger threw the final two on only 25 pitches.
Redlands is right back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. (noon) against Williams College at the Field of Dreams.
