LOS ANGELES – The University of Redlands Softball team (16-4, 5-1) took care of business against Occidental College 11-4 and 6-0 Saturday as they completed the series sweep of the Tigers.
Game 1 (W, 11-4)
The Bulldogs got all of their runs they would need in the third as they plated six. Katlyn Gandara (Whittier, CA) singled and drove in two, Jenay Scott (Merced, CA) also singled and the final three runs came off a two-run triple by Adyson Kim (Millbrae, CA) before Maya Holshoe (Redlands, CA) singled Kim home for a 6-0 advantage in the third.
Scott and Holshoe got RBI's in the fifth before the Tigers responded with three in the bottom half.
The final three runs for the U of R came in the sixth for Redlands. Natalie Lowthers (Wrightwood, CA) got an RBI after being hit with the bases loaded, Kim walked with the bases still full, and Holshoe had her third hit and RBI.
At the top of the order Brooklyn Bard (Long Beach, CA) singled twice and walked twice. Gandara and Holshoe added three hits each, while Leila Gomez (San Bernardino, CA) chipped in a pair of hits.
Paige Ellinger (Temecula, CA) went four scoreless to get her fourth win on the season, while Emma Swenson (Clovis, CA) and Brianna Garcia (Riverside, CA) combined for three innings with only one earned run allowed.
Game 2 (W, 6-0)
The Bulldogs used a three-run third and sixth innings to secure the shutout in Game 2.
Bard tripled to center and scored on an error at short for the first run of the game before a double from Gandara and a single from Kim made it 3-0.
In the sixth, Gandara put the game away with a three-run shot to right center, scoring Bard and Saya Fujii (San Jose, CA).
Gandara got her eighth win thanks to five scoreless innings. Ellinger threw the final two on only 25 pitches.
Redlands is right back at it Sunday, March 22 with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. (noon) against Williams College at the Field of Dreams.
