REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Softball team (18-4) allowed just one run in a doubleheader sweep of Williams College Sunday afternoon taking game one 6-0 and game two 11-1.
Game 1 (W, 6-0)
Avery Provenzano (San Jose, CA) got the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the fourth when she stole home. Then in the fourth Maya Holshoe (Redlands, CA) tripled to right center plating Jenay Scott (Merced, CA). Later in the inning Provenzano singled home Adyson Kim (Millbrae, CA) for a U of R 3-0 lead.
The knockout came in the sixth thanks to a wild pitch that allowed Scott to come home, a Kim double, and another wild pitch.
Brooklyn Bard (Long Beach, CA) finished with two hits and stole three bases at the top of the order. Holshoe had two more hits moving her total from the last two days to five. Katlyn Gandara (Whittier, CA) pitched the shutout for another win on the season. She needed only 63 pitches and allowed only three hits, all singles.
Game 2 (W, 11-1)
The game was over before it really got going as the Bulldogs scored 10 times in the opening inning. Bard began the game with a walk and then stole second. Leila Gomez (San Bernardino, CA) reached on a throwing error, which allowed Bard to score.
After walks to Gandara and Natalie Lowthers (Wrightwood, CA), Scott singled to make it 2-0. Following a fielder's choice, Kim emptied the bases with a three-run double.
The next big hit came from Gomez who singled back up the middle to make it 7-0 Bulldogs. Gandara made it 9-0 with a two-run double before a second Ephs error allowed a 10th run to score.
In the second Holshoe doubled and advanced to third on an error in right. Natalie Lopez (Long Beach, CA) made it two Bulldogs on the bases after drawing a walk, which set up Provenzano who singled Holshoe home for an 11-0 lead.
Paige Ellinger (Temecula, CA) got the start and went two scoreless before giving way to Caitlynn Griffith (Pala, CA) who finished the final three innings and got her fourth win on the season.
Following an off day tomorrow, Redlands welcomes Elmhurst University to the Field of Dreams on Tuesday, March 24 with game one set for 12:00 p.m. (noon).
