REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team showed off their depth in a 5-2 win over Whitworth University Monday night inside the Verdieck Tennis Center, picking up their fourth win on the season.
The Bulldogs got out of the gates quickly sweeping all three spots in doubles earning the early doubles point. Court two came off with a lot of energy, as
Samuel Parsons (Leamington Spa, England) and
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) wrapped up a nice 6-1 victory. Not even a minute later, court one with
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) and
Marlon Abarca (San Diego, CA) had the same result, 6-1.
Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) and
Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) followed suit at No. 3 picking up a 6-3 win.
Redlands continued to roll in singles, as the team picked up the next three points and the clinch.
Luke Bishop (Edmond, OK) at number five left dominated his opponent with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 win.
William Pullin (Peachtree City, GA) who was placed at the top spot went to work and secured a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Parsons at three had another strong win for his day 6-3, 6-1.
However, the Pirates did make a brief comeback. The last three matches on split sets and two of the three third set tiebreakers went with the Pirates. Whittington on court two made a comeback after losing the first set 6-0, taking the second set 6-4, before falling in the tie break 10-8.
Evan Lambert (Sarasota, FL) on the last court had a strong first set win at 6-3, then was up in the second before dropping that frame, 6-4, and eventually the third set tiebreak 10-5.
Last match on was at number four
Tyler Pyle (Lake Oswego, OR). Pyle sailed through his first set 6-2, fell in the second 6-3, but pushed through the third set tiebreak winning 10-6.
Redlands returns to the court Wednesday, March 25 when they host Linfield University beginning at 4:00pm.
