Redlands Baseball plays a pair of rune-rule games with No. 20 Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands baseball team (8-10, 4-2 SCIAC) got run-ruled in game one against No. 20 Pomona-Pitzer, 26-2, before returning the favor 14-2 in game two to split the doubleheader Saturday.

Game 1 (L, 26-2 | 7-Innings)

The Sagehens jumped out in front 18-0 before Jesse Bullard (Riverside, CA) homered to dead center in the 4th Inning.  That same inning the Bulldogs capitalized on an error allowing Ian Umscheid (Beaumont, CA) to come in.

The Bulldogs were held to just three hits and drew two walks.  Bullard was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA) was 1-for-3 and Bubba Correa (Redlands, CA) had a pinch hit base-knock.  Redlands had six pitchers throw but starter Erik Radder (San Diego, CA) was charged with the loss going 2.0 Innings, giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits.  He drops to 1-3 on the season.

Game 2 (W, 14-2 | 7-Innings)

Following a scoreless first, the Bulldogs got an RBI-single from Hanson that scored Eddy Stone (Petaluma, CA) in the second.

They then plated four runs in the third thanks to an error, a two-run double by Nate Miller (San Jose, CA), and an RBI-single from Stone.

The knockout blow was the nine-run fourth. Mason Chetcuti (Redwood City, CA) homered to right, Karlsen Drake (San Diego, CA) drew a bases loaded walk, as did Hanson, and Bullard cleared the bases with a grand slam. The ninth run came off a solo shot from Umscheid as the U of R went back-to-back depp shots.

Hanson reached base three times, Bullard had four RBI's, Chetcuti registered a four-hit game, while Miller and Stone had a combined five hits. Overall, the Bulldogs had 15 hits and eight walks.

On the mound Brett Edwards (Santa Monica, CA) went five innings with two earned runs allowed. Gavin Duenez (Redlands, CA) finished the sixth and seventh innings with four strikeouts and no hits allowed.

Redlands heads north a little ways to play California State University, San Bernardino on Tuesday, March 10 at 5:00 p.m.
