CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands baseball team (8-10, 4-2) got run-ruled in game one against No. 20 Pomona-Pitzer, 26-2, before returning the favor 14-2 in game two.
Game 1: Redlands 2 -Pomona-Pitzer 26
The Sagehens led 18-0 before Jesse Bullard homered to center field. Ian Umscheid then scored on an error in right field.
The Bulldogs were held to only three hits and drew two walks.
Game 2: Redlands 14 – Pomona-Pitzer 2
Following a scoreless first, the Bulldogs got an RBI-single from Luke Hanson as Eddy Stone scored in the second.
They then plated four runs in the third thanks to an error, a two-run double by Nate Miller, and an RBI-single from Stone.
The knockout blow was their nine-run fourth. Mason Chetcuti homered to right, Karlsen Drake drew a bases loaded walk, as did Hanson, and Bullard cleared the bases with a grand slam. The ninth run came off a solo shot from Umscheid.
Hanson reached three times, Bullard had four RBI, Chetcuti registered a four-hit game while Miller and Stone had three and two hits each. Overall, the Bulldogs had 15 hits and eight walks.
On the mound Brett Edwards went five innings with two earned runs. Gavin Duenez finished the sixth and seventh innings with four strikeouts and no hits allowed.
Redlands heads just north as they play California State University, San Bernardino on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
