REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team was on fire as they took down yet another Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competitor, Occidental College, 7-0 Saturday afternoon inside the Verdieck Tennis Center. The Bulldogs extend their winning streak to three games and improve to 9-7, 2-1 SCIAC.
After sweeping UCSC the day prior, the Bulldogs carried the momentum into the weekend. The doubles point went to Redlands as the No. 3 team of
Maisy Reynoso (El Paso, TX) and
Jasmine Sheets (Hesperia, CA) set the first win up with a bagel 6-0, followed by the No. 2 team of
Sophia Truong (Arleta, CA) and
Vrishitha Kumar (Mumbai, India) rolling in at 6-2. Unfortunately, the top duo of
Maegan Deng (Torrance, CA) and
Lindsey Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) would come up short falling 6-4.
Redlands carried the momentum into singles capturing all six victories. Truong at No. 5 had again the most efficient day coming off the court first in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Deng on the first court put aside the tough doubles loss and went to work coming out victorious 6-3, 6-2. Kumar on the fourth court got the clinching point for the Bulldogs breezing through her match 6-1, 6-3.
At No. 6
Eve Laurent (Portland, OR) and No. 3 Reynoso finished at the same time and with identical scores. Both Laurent and Reynoso went 6-2, 6-2. The last match on was Whelan on court two. She won the first set 6-2, came back from being down in the second set, and pulled out the tiebreaker 7-6.
