Bulldog Women's Water Polo drops final road game of the season at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's water polo team (5-19, 3-8 SCIAC) held a one-goal lead in the first minute of the second quarter at No. 3 California Lutheran University (CLU) Wednesday afternoon, but their offense scored just one more time as they dropped their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) road game, 20-3.

Marlie Potocki (Joliet, Ill.) tied the game at one off a Lucia Notaro (Ventura, CA) assist with three minutes remaining in the first quarter as the defense maintained their shut-out streak through the end of the first, which took the two sides into the break tied at one.

Teagan May (Carlsbad, CA) then gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game, 2-1, with 7:13 on the clock in the opening period.

Redlands' shutout streak ended at just over eight minutes after the Regals tied the game shortly after the May tally. That CLU goal was the first of five consecutive before Aubrey Stevenson (Calimesa, CA) found Notaro for the Bulldogs' third goal that pulled them within three, 6-3, with 1:36 remaining until half.

:34 seconds later, though, the Regals scored their seventh goal of the first half and would end the game on a 14-0 run.

In her return back home, Notaro had a goal, assist, and two drawn exclusions. Katie Raber (Portland, OR) drew an exclusion and took possession away twice. Potocki had a goal and a steal and Emberly De La Vega (Nipomo, CA) had two steals.

In goal Natalie Abril (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) made four saves and had three steals before Elena Sanchez Alcaraz (Tijuana, Mexico) finished the final eight minutes, recording a steal.

Redlands will complete their regular season this Saturday, April 11 at home inside the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) at 11:00 a.m. as they welcome Chapman University for senior day.
