LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands baseball team (21-17, 15-9 SCIAC) dropped their doubleheader at the University of La Verne Saturday falling 9-2 in game one and 6-2 in game two.
Game 1 (L, 9-2)
The Bulldogs scored the first two runs of the game on an Eddy Stone (Petaluma, CA) double that allowed Anthony Thomas (Moreno Valley, CA) to score and a sacrifice fly from Thomas, which plated Tyler Barsness (Palm Desert, CA), in the third.
La Verne woke up offensively in the third with three runs on five hits. They added four more runs on four hits to put the game away, 7-2, after four innings as the Bulldogs finished with only three hits across the final four innings.
Stone and Thomas had five of the Bulldogs' eight hits, while Barsness had a hit and two walks drawn.
On the mound Gavin Duenez (Redlands, CA) went two innings with one run allowed, Adrian Lopez (Oak Hills, CA) allowed one run across 1.2 innings, and Kanan Treece (Riverside, CA) threw a scoreless eighth.
Game 2 (L, 6-2)
In Game 2 the Leopards' picked up their runs in the opening three innings before the Bulldogs' pitching held them scoreless the rest of the way thanks to Chad Kober (Castaic, CA) who threw the final 5.2 innings with no runs allowed.
The two runs for the Bulldogs came on a two-run single by Nate Miller (San Jose, CA) who found grass in left field plating Aziz Bishop (Baltimore, MD) and Barsness.
Ian Umscheid (Beaumont, CA) had two of the Bulldogs seven hits and both Jesse Bullard (Riverside, CA) and Tanner Gerosa (Huntington Beach, CA) had a hit and a walk.
Redlands secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament due to their win Friday. With Pomona-Pitzer sweeping Occidental College, and the Bulldogs' results today, the Sagehens will host the Bulldogs to begin the SCIAC Tournament this week occurring on Thursday, May 7 with full details being added to the schedule once finalized.
