SEGUIN, Texas – Natalie Lowthers (Wrightwood, CA) and Caitlynn Griffith (Pala, CA) were named the Seguin, Texas Super Regional Most Outstanding Player and Pitcher for the University of Redlands softball program after they helped the Bulldogs defeat Texas Lutheran University (TLU), 2-1, in the best-of-three series.
Over the series Lowthers hit .455 with five hits in 11 at bats. She added a double, home run, and five runs batted in (RBI's). Four of her five RBI's came on a grand slam in game three of the super regional, which became the game-winning hit and helped the Bulldogs take the series advancing them to the NCAA Division III Women's College World Series (WCWS).
Griffith pitched in all three games and struck out six batters across 6.1 innings, allowing only a .143 batting average against. She recorded a save and a win as well.
Redlands begins their WCWS run with a familiar opponent in the form of the No. 4 seed Linfield University on Thursday, May 28 at 10:30 a.m. PST in Salem, Virginia.
