REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands track and field teams took second on the men's side with 143.5 points and third with 111 points on the women's side at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships hosted inside Ted Runner Stadium on Ashel Cunningham Track this weekend.
Men
The Bulldogs took second behind Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) who scored 196 points. The Maroon and Grey scored 98 points on the final day to improve from third place after day one.
Overall, they edged out Pomona-Pitzer by 16.5 points and were a healthy 56 and 56.5 points ahead of Occidental College and Chapman University.
The Bulldogs' points came from 20 different events. The first being Nickolas Sorich who scored 6,122 points placing third for six points in the Decathlon. His point total moved him up into seventh place in program history. He posted personal bests in the 1500m (5:17.05 | 3rd), Javelin (48.95m | 1st), Pole Vault (3.64m | 2nd), and High Jump (1.71m | 2nd). He also added five points as the fourth-place finisher in the individual Javelin (47.00m).
Jaiden Coleman scored 14 points across five different events. He tallied five points with a fourth-place finish in the 100m (10.63), six points in the 200m (21.62 | 3rd), a point in the Long Jump (6.53m | 8th), and was then on the 4x100 relay team that scored five points and the 4x400 relay team that added eight points.
In the 4x100 relay Coleman was joined by Jeremiah Williams, Jude Holling, and Tyler Levonduskie who combined for a 42.15 placing fourth. The 4x400 relay team consisted of Levonduskie, Matthew Farnsworth, Coleman, and Holling. They ran a 3:17.62 and finished second to CMS. Farnsworth also added a point in the 1500m (3:57.95 | 8th).
Adding to the sprinting success was Williams who scored four points in the 200m (22.38 | 5th) and Patrick Lang II with two in the 400m (50.04 | 7th).
Stian Asper continued his long-distance dominance with a fourth-place finish in the 5000m (14:51.02) and a SCIAC title in the 10,000m (31:54.19), which totaled 15 points. David Huggins came in sixth in the 10,000m (32:42.67) for another three points.
In the hurdles both Holling and Sam James scored in 110m and 400m Hurdles. Holling ran a 14.52 and scored eight points in the 110m Hurdles and won the 400m Hurdles in 53.92. James took third in the 110m Hurdles (15.22) and eighth in the 400m Hurdles (1:00.34). James added 4.5 points for a joint fourth-place finish in the High Jump (1.90m).
Joseph O'Donnell and Alejandro Medina took fourth and fifth, respectively in the 3000m Steeplechase with times of 9:47.60 and 9:49.39.
In the field events Nate Reinhard tied for second with a clearance of 4.57m, 15' 0" in the Pole Vault, which scored the Bulldogs seven points. Roman Juni was the runner-up in the Triple Jump (13.94m).
Christian Ferguson tallied 12 points between a pair of third-place finishes in the Shot Put (14.06m), which was a personal best, and the Hammer (54.59m).
Derek Delgado and James Felio took sixth and eighth in the shot put with marks of 13.87m and 13.11m on their fourth and first attempts.
Odis Hamer and Ty Murga combined for 13 total points thanks to second and fourth-place finishes in the Discus. Both throwers posted their best marks on their final attempts, which were 45.07m and 43.48m.
Women
The Bulldogs had 10 points and were fifth after day one Saturday before collecting 101 points on Sunday, advancing them into third place behind Claremont-M-S and Chapman.
Redlands' points came from 15 different events with the Heptathlon collecting an important 29 points. They also saw nine Top 10 times/marks set.
Elisabeth Eichinger won the Heptathlon with 4,767 points, the second-highest total in program history and only 32 points behind record holder Alison Smith who set the record in 2017. It is also the 15th-highest total in the country so far. She had a personal best in the 200m (24.45). She gave Redlands three points in the individual 100m Hurdles (15.42 | 6th) and six in the Long Jump (5.43m | 3rd), bringing her total to 22 points on the weekend.
Shaylee Heron scored 3,994 points placing second with the eighth-highest total in program history. She had personal bests in all but two events. Like Eichinger, she scored in the 100m Hurdles (16.04 | 8th).
Joining Eichinger and Heron with points in the hurdles was Mia Navares in the 400m Hurdles (1:21.62 | 7th).
Madison Eaton scored 3,883 points and added six more points to the Bulldogs total. She also added eight points in the individual High Jump (1.57m) but it was the Heptathlon High Jump where she cleared the joint sixth-highest mark of 1.62m, 5' 3 ¾" in program history.
Leilani Mayne came in fourth with 3,779 points, the new 10th-place total. During the 100m Hurdles she took second with a time of 14.97, the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Sabrina Semmere had a big weekend with 19 points thanks to runner-up finishes in the 100m and 200m. Her best times, and new Top-10 times, both came during the preliminary rounds as she ran 11.98 in the 100m and 24.42 in the 200m, which are the third and second-fastest times in program history.
Sabrina Tanouye, Semmere, Aniah Perry, and Eichinger ran a 47.89 placing second to CMS. The 4x400 relay team of Tanouye, Semmere, Eichinger, and Madison Schaefer ran a 4:02.44 finishing fourth. Schaefer added three points in the 800m (2:22.62 | 6th).
Another point came from Kiera Beyer in the 10,000m (40:03.23).
In the field events Mari Evonuk claimed the SCIAC title in the High Jump with a second height clearance of 1.62m, 5' 3 ¾". Sophia Knowles set the new eight-best mark in program history in the Triple Jump (11.17m, 36' 7 ¾") as she took third scoring six points.
The Bulldog throwers combined for nine points. Ellie Mann took eighth in the Shot Put (10.69m, 35' 1"), Sophia Gerken took fourth in the Discus (39.11m, 128' 4"), and Keegan Sherry was sixth in the Javelin (36.26m, 118' 11"). Sherry's mark improves upon her old 10th-best mark in school history.
Redlands still has three meets over the next 11 days to try to get/stay inside the Top-22 in the country in their event(s) in order to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships May 21-23 in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Their first chance will be the Occidental Invitational this Saturday, May 9.
