RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Redlands cross country teams took fifth on the men's side and 19th on the women's in the open races of the University of California, Riverside Invitational Saturday morning.
Men
The Bulldog men had an average team time of 25:40.0 with their top two finishers both coming inside the scoring Top-25.
Stian Asper (St. Paul, MN) was the runner-up as he came across the line in 24:16.2, a new program record, which he already held but improved upon by 1.2 seconds.
Max Schaller (San Diego, CA) was the second-highest finishing Bulldog in 25th with a 25:33.2.
The next three highest placing runners were Matthew Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) in 58th (25:58.2), Kallen Gragg (Redlands, CA) in 64th (26:03.3), and Logan Cole (Torrance, CA) in 93rd (26:32.1).
Women
The Bulldogs had an average team time of 19:40.0 with 11 of the 18 teams ahead of them coming in the form of higher division programs.
In the 5K race Kiera Beyer (Beaverton, OR) was the top Bulldog finisher in 60th place after running an 18:51.8, only a few seconds off her personal best and the 11th-fastest time in program history.
In 97th place with a 19:23.1 was freshman Chelsea Jauregui (Bakersfield, CA). The final three of the top five Bulldogs included Madison Schaefer (Portland, OR) in 136th (19:53.7), Elaine Dugmore (Gardena, CA) in 153rd (20:05.9), and Avery Couch (Apple Valley, CA) in 163rd (20:10.4).
Redlands has next Saturday off before a trip to Spokane Valley, Washington for the Frank Knott Classic hosted by Whitworth University on October 3.
