REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's soccer team (2-6, 1-2 SCIAC) fell 3-0 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) as early scores by the Athenas were too much to recover from.
One of those early scores for CMS came only :56 seconds after the opening whistle as the Bulldogs lost possession in the CMS defensive half, which turned into a long ball over the top and a sliding shot to beat the U of R goalkeeper Nicole Immoos (San Luis Obispo, CA) to make it 1-0.
Immoos then made two more saves before Claire August (Mountlake Terrace, WA) had a look, taking a ball out of the air striking it well off a volley, but it would end up straight at the Athena keeper.
The rest of the opening half the Bulldogs shut out CMS thanks to four more Immoos saves and a strong structure that did not allow for many open opportunities in the final third for the Athenas.
In the 52nd minute Redlands allowed their second goal as CMS would dribble up the right side, pass it into the box, and after a second touch, would find the far side post, making it 2-0.
Six more saves later, Immoos and the Bulldogs were looking at a 2-0 scoreline, a big improvement after falling 5-0 earlier in the season.
Redlands, though, did have a chance at drawing a penalty kick in the 87th minute when Madeline Tetens (San Diego, CA) got around the CMS defender going to the ground. But the center referee did not see enough to give the Bulldogs a lifeline.
A final late tally by CMS on a ball that went through Immoos' gloves near post would make it 3-0.
Immoos finished with 12 saves, and while the Bulldogs did allow the Athenas to take 44 shots, they did block 10 of them before Immoos needed to make a save.
Redlands heads on the road this Wednesday as they take on No. 14 California Lutheran University (CLU) beginning at 7:00 p.m.
