SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – In their final home game away from Farquhar Field the University of Redlands women's soccer team (1-1) scored three unanswered goals in the second half as their young team outcompeted the Sabres of Marian University (Wisconsin) Friday evening at San Bernardino Valley College.
Trailing 1-0 in the second half after a clearance attempt hit off a Bulldog and deflected into the goal for an own goal in the first, Madeline Tetens scored off a mistake from the backline of Marian. A defender passed back to the keeper with far too much pace and when they tied to clear it went right to Tetens who took advantage and finished to tie the game.
With the game tied, Averie Stunz got a header off a corner from Kate Wagner and scored the game-winning goal. Wagner took the corner from the left side and sent it to the middle of the six-yard box where Stunz headed it to the left corner of the goal for a 2-1 lead in the 74th.
Katelyn Wallace added an insurance goal less than two minutes later in the 75th when she took a free kick from 35-yards out and beat the keeper over their hand and below the crossbar.
Defensively Nicole Immoos made nine saves as she faced 13 shots, 10 of which were on target.
Redlands returns to competition against a familiar opponent as they play a second non-conference game against a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) team as they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) on Sunday with kickoff at 11 a.m.
