SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – In their final home game away from Farquhar Field the University of Redlands women's soccer team (1-1) scored three unanswered goals in the second half as their young team outcompeted the Sabres of Marian University (Wisconsin) Friday evening at San Bernardino Valley College, winning 3-1.
Redlands found themselves down early in the first half after a Bulldog clearance attempt hit off a defender before deflecting into the goal for an own goal. After that it was all Redlands sparked by Madeline Tetens (San Diego, CA) who scored off a mistake from the backline of Marian. A defender attempted a pass back to the keeper with far too much pace and when they tried to clear it, it went right to Tetens who took advantage finishing to tie the game.
With the game tied, Averie Stunz (Stanwood, WA) received a beautiful ball on the back side from Kate Wagner finishing off a header, which would be the eventual game-winner. Wagner took the corner from the left side and sent it to the middle of the six-yard box where Stunz headed it to the left corner of the goal for a 2-1 U of R lead in the 74th.
Katelyn Wallace (Beaverton, OR) then added an insurance goal less than two minutes later in the 75th when she took a free kick from 35-yards out beating the Sabre keeper over her outstretched hand and below the crossbar.
Defensively, Nicole Immoos (San Luis Obispo, CA) made nine saves as she faced 13 shots, 10 of which were on target.
Redlands returns to competition against a familiar opponent as they play a second non-conference game against a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) team as they travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) on Sunday, September 6 with kickoff set for 11:00 a.m.
