The University of Redlands women's soccer team maintained its
hard-fought momentum from Saturday's victory and defeated the 2007
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges by a score of 1-0.
Coupled by Cal Lutheran University's loss to Occidental College,
the Bulldogs move into third place in the conference standings.
Redlands applied pressure from the start, forcing six corner
kicks and mustering eight shots in the first half. The
Bulldogs gained the only goal of the game in the 43rd
minute when freshman defender Breann Puchalski (Redlands, CA) threw
in the ball across the box and eventually found sophomore
midfielder Stephanie Crosson (Irvine, CA). Crosson flicked
the ball to freshman defender Chelsea Hafley (Redlands, CA), who
drove it into the far corner of the net for the second goal of her
career.
Although CMS out-shot Redlands, 16-12, sophomore goalkeeper
Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) made six important stops for
the Bulldogs. Sophomore goalkeeper Camila Friedman-Gerlicz
(Santa Fe, NM) patrolled the goal for the Athenas, earning three
saves.
The Bulldogs (9-5-3, 7-4-1 SCIAC) now enter Thursday's SCIAC
Postseason Tournament as the third seed, facing #2 Occidental
College. As the top seed, CMS hosts the event and takes on #4
Cal Lutheran. Game times are TBA.
