The University of Redlands women's soccer team began the defense
of its 2006 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SCIAC) title today with a solid 3-0 victory over the visiting
Leopards of the University of La Verne.
Tallying her third goal in four games, junior forward Erica Jahn
(Davis, CA) scored the eventual game-winner at 17:51 off of a pass
from sophomore Sarah Vert (Helena, MT). At the start of the
31st minute, Vert put away a goal off of a corner kick
by senior Hadley Bowers (Salt Lake City, UT) that was deflected by
the Leopard goalkeeper. Finally, Redlands posted its third
goal of the game early in the second half when junior Steffany
Becker (Las Vegas, NV) connected on a pass from junior Becky Willis
(Escondido, CA), putting the ball into the far upper corner of the
net.
The Bulldog defense held La Verne to no shots and only two
corner kicks, while earning 14 shots and two corner kicks.
Sophomores Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) and Suzi Aleksander
(Boise, ID) split time between the pipes for the combined shut-out.
ULV goalkeeper Brigette Jennings tallied four saves in 90
minutes of action.
Redlands continues conference action on Wednesday, September 19,
at 7 p.m., when they welcome the Poets of Whittier College to
Farquhar Field.
