The 14th-ranked University of Redlands women's soccer
team endured the end of one of the most impressive streaks in
program history on Saturday when it lost a tough battle to
Occidental College, 0-1. The Bulldogs entered the match-up
riding a dominant 19-game Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (SCIAC) unbeaten streak that stretched all the
way back to October 12, 2005. Ironically, the last conference
team to defeat the Bulldogs was Occidental by the same score.
Under wet and rainy conditions, the Bulldogs gave up the only
goal of the game at 1:47 into the first half. The team fought
throughout the remaining 88 minutes as the trio of junior
midfielder Becky Willis (Escondido, CA), junior forward Erica Jahn
(Davis, CA) and senior defender Natalie Souders (Whittier, CA)
combined for the team's five shots on goal. Against a tough
Tiger defense, the Bulldogs struggled to find the back of the net.
Bulldog women's soccer (3-1-2, 2-1 SCIAC) looks to rebound on
Wednesday when it welcomes conference rival Cal Lutheran University
to Farquhar Field at 7 p.m. Redlands then takes to the road
against SCIAC co-leader Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 11 a.m.
on Saturday.
