Senior midfielder Bryan Fakkema (Oak Harbor, WA), who is known
more for his knack of finding goal scorers than taking the ball in
himself, put away two goals in a Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match on Oct. 1,
lifting the University of Redlands over Occidental College 5-2.
Fakkema scored in the 20th minute of play off a pass by junior
midfielder Nick Gundersen (Park City, UT) and then scored an
unassisted goal eight minutes later off of a direct kick from the
left-hand side of the field.
Occidental's Fran Taylor cut the score in half just 1:19 into
the second half, weaving through the Bulldog defenders and netting
the Tigers' first goal unassisted.
Senior forward Ross Schunk (Portland, OR) rolled along with his
season-long offensive tear, netting a highlight-reel goal off of a
pass from junior midfielder Cale Rodriguez (Norwalk, CA).
Taking advantage of a Kris Suzuki kick right past the midfield
mark, Deryck Lim uncorked a dribbler from outside of the box,
scoring what would be the final goal for Occidental.
Redlands put the match out of reach when Rodriguez scored in the
78th minute and senior midfielder Steve Chenes (Las Vegas, NV)
punched in the match's final goal a minute later off of a
Rodriguez feed.
The Bulldogs (5-4-1, 4-0-1 SCIAC) travel to Cal Lutheran University
on Saturday to take on the Kingsmen at 11 a.m.
