The University of Redlands men's basketball team fell into
a hole early and lost by a 47-67 final against Biola University, an
NAIA school, in La Mirada on Saturday.
Thanks to persistence midway through the first half, the Bulldogs
pulled within five with a 7-0 run that started with two made free
throws by freshman guard/forward Stephen Call (Portola Valley, CA)
and ended with a three-pointer by junior guard Breck Mahoney
(Chicago, IL).
Leading the way was junior guard Patrick Coffey (San Carlos, CA)
who scored 14 points on 5-for-13 shooting and a perfect 3-for-3
mark from the free-throw line.
Several Bulldogs saw significant time off the bench. Freshman
center Jordan Sanvictores (Redwood City, CA) chipped in eight
points and seven rebounds in 19 minutes of action while Mahoney and
sophomore center Andrew Mills (Newcastle, WA) played in 23 and 22
minutes, respectively.
Despite its offensive woes from the field, the team shot an
impressive 8-for-9 from the line for a stellar 84.6 percent
clip.
Redlands (4-7) starts up Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition on Saturday, Jan. 10
against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 7:30 p.m. in Currier
Gym.
