The University of Redlands women's soccer team lost, 1-2,
at the hands of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Wednesday
afternoon in Claremont.
Sophomore forward Kaily Benenati (Denver, CO) scored off of a pass
from junior midfielder Jessi Hoyt (Boise, ID) just 37 seconds into
the second stanza, cutting the Athenas' 2-0 lead in half. The
Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities for the
remainder of the match, however, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps came
away with its second victory over the Bulldogs this season.
Laura Hagen fed the ball to Carolyn Campbell for the match's
first goal in the 19th minute, and with just less than four minutes
to play in the first half, Kirsten McAfee buried what wound up
being the game-winning score.
Senior goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) stopped
three shots in between the pipes for the Bulldogs but sustained the
loss. The losing effort snaps Rawlings' five-game shutout
streak, which spanned from Oct. 3 to Oct. 17. Camila
Friedman-Gerlicz kept the Athenas alive with six saves tending the
Athena net.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (9-2-2, 7-0-2 SCIAC) entertains Whittier
College on Saturday. Game time is set for 11 a.m. on Pritzlaff
Field.
Redlands (9-5, 7-2 SCIAC) looks to keep its Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title hopes alive when
it hosts Cal Lutheran University on Saturday. The match, which is
the team's inaugural “Breast Cancer Awareness
Night,” is slated for 7 p.m. on Farquhar Field. In the first
meeting between the two teams this season on Sept. 30, the Bulldogs
scored in overtime to down the defensive-minded Regals, 2-1. For
