The University of Redlands women's soccer team gave up two
goals in the first 22 minutes, losing to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges,
1-2, on Wednesday afternoon in Claremont.
Katy Metcalf opened scoring in the third minute while Kira Watson
tacked on the eventual game-winner in the 22nd minute.
Sophomore forward Fionna Connolly (Salem, OR) cut the lead in half
at the 52-minute mark, converting on a corner-kick opportunity.
In between the pipes for the Bulldogs, senior goalkeeper Tenley
Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) stopped eight shots but sustained the
loss. Gabby Baum and Alex Schott split time in goal for the
Sagehens, notching one and four saves, respectively.
The Maroon and Gray held a 13-11 edge in shots while matching the
home team's corner-kick total with three.
Pomona-Pitzer (4-11-1, 3-7-1 SCIAC) visits Thousand Oaks on
Saturday for an 11 a.m. match against the Regals of Cal Lutheran
University.
Redlands (10-6, 8-3 SCIAC) celebrates Senior Day on Saturday at
Farquhar Field and is set to kick off against the University of La
Verne at 11 a.m. On Thursday, the team competes as the No. 2 seed
in the semifinal round of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament at
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. Game times and opponents have yet
to be determined.
