Junior defender Breann Puchalski (Redlands, CA) accounted for a
goal and an assist, leading the University of Redlands
women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the University of
La Verne on Wednesday afternoon in La Verne.
Puchalski opened scoring in the 43rd minute when she blasted a shot
past Leopard keeper Brigette Jennings. In the 85th minute,
Puchalski sealed the win when she placed a perfect ball in the box
off of a corner, which junior midfielder Jessi Hoyt (Boise, ID)
subsequently buried.
Senior goalkeeper Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT) earned her
fourth shutout of the season, turning away two shots. Jennings made
seven saves yet shouldered the defeat for La Verne by allowing both
Bulldog goals.
Due to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges' bye slot in the
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
schedule, Redlands gained ground in the standings. The Maroon and
Gray sits just one point behind the Athenas heading into the second
round of SCIAC competition.
Redlands (6-4, 5-1 SCIAC) contests Whittier College on Saturday at
11 a.m. in Whittier. The Bulldogs edged the Poets in their first
meeting this year by a 1-0 final on Sept. 16.
