The No. 11 University of Redlands women's tennis team
cruised by Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
foe Whittier College on Saturday by a score of 9-0. The Bulldogs
controlled the match from the opening serve and never looked
back.
In doubles, Redlands dropped a combined two games, with the No. 1
duo of juniors Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) and Whitney Waters (Austin,
TX) winning the shutout, 8-0. The No. 2 team of sophomore Sara
Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) and senior Kaleena Wakamatsu (Maui, HI)
boasted an 8-1 final, as did the No. 3 duo of senior Tori Damiani
(Sacramento, CA) and junior Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA).
The Bulldogs gained much of the same results in singles with
Damiani, freshman Kristen Hunnicutt (Ahwatukee, AZ) and junior
Carrie McCann (McMinnville, OR) all posting 6-0, 6-0 victories at
their respective slots.
After being rained out on Friday, Redlands (13-5, 6-0 SCIAC) looks
forward to finishing up the first round of conference competition
on Sunday at 2 p.m. as it hosts undefeated Pomona-Pitzer Colleges
at Verdieck Courts.
