No. 11 Redlands Women's Tennis Falls to No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges

The No. 11 University of Redlands women's tennis team faced off against the only other undefeated opponent in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on Sunday but the Bulldogs came up short against the No. 7 Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by a score of 2-7.

In Sunday's match, the Bulldogs lost two hard-fought doubles matches to face an early 0-3 deficit.  The No. 3 duo of junior Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and senior Tori Damiani (Sacramento, CA) fell in a tiebreak, 9-8 (5). The No. 2 team of sophomore Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) and senior Kaleena Wakamatsu (Maui, HI) suffered a tough 9-7 loss.

In singles, the Bulldogs' only bright spots came at No. 2, with junior Paige Sumida snagging a 7-5, 6-7 (7), 10-4 victory, and at No. 6, with junior Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) polishing off her opponent by scores of 7-5, 6-4.

Redlands (13-6, 6-1 SCIAC) looks forward to the SCIAC Tournament, which takes place on Friday and Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.  With Sunday's loss, Redlands enters the SCIAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed.
