The No. 11 University of Redlands women's tennis team shut
out the Regals of Cal Lutheran University in its first Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match since
February 28.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead by capturing all three
doubles points with outstanding play at every slot. The No. 1 duo
of juniors Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) and Whitney Waters (Austin, TX)
made quick work of their opponents and earned the 8-0 victory. At
No. 2, junior Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and senior Tori
Damiani (Sacramento, CA) came away with an 8-4 win, while freshman
Kristen Hunnicutt (Ahwatukee, AZ) and junior Sutton Anderson
(Breckenridge, CO) also defeated their counterparts by the same
score.
In singles, Redlands remained in control of the match by winning
in straight sets at every position. At No. 6, Hunnicutt dropped
only two games while Sumida, senior Kaleena Wakamatsu (Maui, HI)
and Waters gave up only three apiece at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5,
respectively. Miller came through with a 6-3, 6-4 showing at the
top spot as Damiani posted a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 3.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges to Verdieck Courts on Saturday for
a conference match beginning at 9:30 a.m.
