Competing in the third round of the 2009 NCAA Championships, the
No. 8 University of Redlands women's tennis team fell short
against familiar foe and seventh-ranked Pomona-Pitzer Colleges
earlier today by a score of 1-5.
The Bulldogs trailed 1-2 after doubles and then quickly
succumbed to the Sagehens by dropping singles matches at No. 1, No.
4, and No. 6.
Redlands mustered its only point in an 8-3 pounding by senior
Kaleena Wakamatsu (Maui, HI) and sophomore Sara Yoshinaga
(Honolulu, HI) at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Wakamatsu held a slight lead at No. 5 with a 7-5,
2-3 showing.
The Bulldogs finished out the season with a 17-7 record and look
forward to sending juniors Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA),
Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) and Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) to the NCAA
Individual Championships, which begin May 22 in Lawrenceville, GA.
