Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) match-up between the University of Redlands and
Occidental College women's soccer teams was a hard-fought clash on
Farquhar Field. However, the eventual game-winning goal came only
seconds into the first half as the Bulldogs suffered a difficult
0-1 loss.
Occidental pounced on the Bulldogs and found the back of the net
just 23 seconds into regulation. Junior defender Liz Martin
(Fremont, CA) notched the game's only score when she stepped in
front of a Redlands pass and struck a quick one-timer into the
net.
The Maroon and Gray fought hard to come back, striking 17 shots,
including four against the post. But it wasn't enough to overcome
the strong play of senior goalkeeper Robin Feldman (Louisville,
CO), who collected five saves in the process.
Sophomore goalkeeper Linzey Smith
(Anaheim Hills, CA) protected the Redlands goal during the second
frame, making six saves in 45 minutes of work.
The Bulldogs look to bounce back on Wednesday evening as they
travel to Whittier College for a 7 p.m. SCIAC match against the
Poets.
