The University of Redlands women's soccer team grabbed an
early lead against the Leopards of the University of La Verne and
never looked back en route to a 1-0 road victory on Saturday.
Senior forward Emily Birzak (Columbia, MD) scored her second
goal in as many games when she found the back of the net off of an
assist by junior forward Fionna Connolly (Salem, OR) less than four
minutes into the match. While notching her second assist of
the season, Connolly remains the team's point-leader with
16.
The Redlands defense played extremely well, as sophomore
goalkeepers Rachel Foreman (San Jose, CA) and Linzey Smith (Anaheim
Hills, CA) collectively earned the team's sixth shutout in
2010.
With the win, Redlands eclipses the .500 mark in conference play
for the first time in nearly three weeks, now posting a 4-3 record
in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SCIAC).
The Bulldogs (6-6, 4-3 SCIAC) return to action on Wednesday when
they travel to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges for a 7 p.m. kickoff against
the Sagehens.
