Box Score The University of Redlands women's soccer team's exciting postseason run came to an end on Friday morning as the Bulldogs lost to No.2 Hardin-Simmons University (TX) by a score of 0-2 in the third round of the NCAA Division III Championships.
The Cowgirls applied pressure early in the match, scoring within the first three minutes of action. Junior defender Brittany Vacca put one past Redlands sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Foreman (San Jose, CA) at the 2:19 mark after receiving assists from sophomore midfielder Katie Kuykendall and senior defender Sarah Stansell.
Vacca came right back at the Bulldogs, scoring her second goal of the game less than 10 minutes later to give Hardin-Simmons a comfortable lead.
During the second half, Redlands fought back by registering nine of its ten total shots, but fell short in finding the back of the net. All-Conference junior forward Fionna Connolly (Salem, OR) tallied the most shots for the Bulldogs, striking four toward the Cowgirls' goal.
Hardin-Simmons tested Bulldog goalkeeper Foreman throughout the entire match as she faced 18 total shots with ten on frame. She collected her second-highest saves total of her career by stopping seven during 90 minutes of action.
The Cowgirls improve to an impressive 22-0 on the year and advance to the final round of the Sectional against No. 7 Emory University (GA), who edged No. 5 Wheaton College (IL) in a 9-8 shootout.
Redlands caps off the 2010 campaign after advancing to the third round for the first time in program history while also clinching its inaugural Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament title. The Bulldogs end the season with an overall record of 12-10, highlighted by five wins in their last six contests.
