The No. 9 University of Redlands women's tennis team blew
by the visiting Beavers of Caltech in today's Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match at
Verdieck Courts by a score of 9-0. Revealing its depth by playing
its third lineup in as many matches, the Bulldogs simply dominated
their opponents at every slot.
The Maroon and Gray dropped only two games in three matches to
sweep the doubles by a combined score of 24-2. The No. 1 duo of
seniors Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) and Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) and
the No. 2 team of senior Sutton Anderson (Breckenridge, CO) and
freshman Julia Galbraith (Tacoma, WA) both prevailed by scores of
8-0.
The team's control of the match continued in singles with
junior Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) cruising to a 6-0, 6-0
win at No. 1 and junior Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) securing the
Bulldogs' victory with a 6-0, 6-1 performance at the No. 2
slot.
Redlands (3-1, 3-0 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting Cal Lutheran
University on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in a conference showdown
against the Regals.
