The No. 10 University of Redlands women's tennis team posted a
solid 8-1 victory over the visiting Regals of Cal Lutheran
University in today's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) match on Verdieck Courts.
The Bulldogs swept the doubles to take an early 3-0 lead. Senior
Sutton Anderson (Breckenridge, CO) and sophomore Nicole Gerentine
(Austin, TX) teamed up for an 8-3 win at the No. 3 slot to initiate
the scoring. Juniors Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and Sara
Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) kept the momentum going with their 8-5
showing at No. 2. Finally, seniors Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) and
Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) secured the sweep with an 8-6 performance
at the top spot.
In singles, Yoshinaga cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 to
put Redlands up by a score of 4-0.
Anderson clinched the match for the Bulldogs by downing her
opponent at No. 6, 6-0, 6-0.
Sumida, Waters, and freshman Julia Galbraith (Tacoma, WA) also
captured singles wins to make it an 8-1 tally for the Maroon and
Gray.
With today's win, Redlands (5-2, 4-0 SCIAC) remains undefeated
in conference competition. The Bulldogs continue their 12-match
home stand on Sunday with an 11 a.m. match against regional rival
Trinity University (TX).
