The No. 17 University of Redlands women's tennis team came up
short in today's non-conference match against visiting No. 16
Bowdoin College (ME) by a score of 2-7. Despite taking an early 2-1
lead in doubles, the Bulldogs struggled against the Polar Bears in
singles, resulting in their second loss in a row.
After losing quickly at No. 3 doubles, the Maroon and Gray
rallied back to win the remaining two matches. The top team of
seniors Paige Sumida (Hilo, HI) and Whitney Waters (Austin, TX)
came up with an 8-5 victory, while the No. 2 duo of juniors Rachael
Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) posted
an exciting 8-6 win.
However, the momentum shifted in favor of Bowdoin as Redlands
dropped every singles match to lead to the 2-7 loss. Yoshinaga
extended her match to three sets at No. 4 but came up short in the
deciding stanza.
The Bulldogs (5-4) look to rebound on Monday at 3 p.m. with a
non-conference match against No. 3 Williams College (MA) on
Verdieck Courts.
