Box Score Despite fighting back from a 2-0 deficit, the University of
Redlands women's soccer team came up short in the final minutes of
Wednesday's non-conference bout against Chapman University,
resulting in a 2-3 loss. The Bulldogs have dropped three of their
last four matches against the Panthers.
Chapman rushed out to an early lead on freshman forward Camy
Jun's first goal of the night, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead at
the break. Jun supplied a second netter within the first five
minutes of the second period, seeming to create a sizeable lead for
Chapman.
However, the Bulldogs lit up the first few minutes of the second
frame as junior midfielder Fionna Connolly (Salem, OR) posted a
header through traffic, sparking the Maroon and Gray offense at the
47th minute. Less than two minutes later, junior midfielder Maddy Phillips (Seattle, WA) joined suit by netting her third score of
the year to even up the ball game at two apiece with 41 minutes
remaining.
Despite earning 18 shots to Chapman's seven, Redlands struggled
to convert its final opportunities.
The Panthers secured the game-winning goal with less than nine
minutes to go when senior midfielder Bridget Thomson connected with
sophomore midfielder Karina Cisneros's assist.
The Maroon and Gray provided an onslaught of shots in the final
minutes but came up empty.
Redlands (4-3-0) takes to the road on Saturday for a 1 p.m.
kickoff against conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Colleges.
