The University of Redlands women's soccer team jumped out
to an early lead on Saturday afternoon at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
Colleges but couldn't hold on, losing to the Stags by a score
of 1-2 at John Pritzlaff Field.
Junior forward Fionna Connolly (Salem, OR) notched the lone
score for Redlands at the two-minute mark, providing her
team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Redlands held the Stags in check, keeping them scoreless through
the first half, but relinquished two goals late in the second
frame.
Junior forward Julia Nishioka (Honolulu, HI) netted the
Athenas' first score at the 61st minute to tie it
up. Senior forward Lizzie Van Buskirk (San Rafael, CA)
recorded the game-winner with only two minutes remaining in the
game, handing a difficult defeat to the Bulldogs.
Redlands (4-4, 2-1 SCIAC) picks up play on Wednesday evening
with a 7 p.m. match against Cal Lutheran University at Farquhar
Field. In addition to the important SCIAC showdown, the
Bulldogs host their second annual "Breast Cancer Awareness
Night" to promote the ongoing battle against the disease.
