No. 19 Bulldog Men's Soccer Breaks Program Winning Streak, Completes Undefeated SCIAC Season

Box Score

The No. 19 University of Redlands men's soccer team rewrote the record books on Saturday when it defeated the University of La Verne, 3-0, at Damien High School.   In addition to resetting the program's all-time winning streak, the Bulldogs posted an undefeated record in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition for the first time since 2003.

With tonight's victory, Redlands improved upon the school's previous winning streak of 14 games, which was held by the 2003 team, by capturing its 15th victory and 13th shutout of the season. The Maroon and Gray also capped off an incredible offensive display by scoring 62 goals over the 14-conference game schedule.

Freshman forward Matej Kustura (Las Vegas, NV) tallied a point in his fourth straight contest by recording the Bulldogs' opening goal at the 35:38-mark against the Leopards. Kustura connected on his fifth netter of his rookie campaign by finding the back of La Verne's net on a 23-yard score.

Redlands kept the pressure on the Leopards as junior forward Alex Laughton (Pleasanton, CA) beat the goalkeeper for a close-range goal with less than 12 minutes to go in the game. Freshman forward Charles Izydorek (Redlands, CA) added to his team- and conference-leading point-total, dishing out an assist to Laughton.

In the 84th minute, sophomore midfielder Will Walker (Folsom, CA) put the final dagger in La Verne's chances, notching his fifth goal of the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andreas Silva (San Jose, CA) played the majority of the game, picking up his SCIAC-leading 16th victory of the season while stopping three shots. Senior Jason Smuckler (Woodland Hills, CA) preserved the shutout and added a save in the final minutes.

Redlands (17-3-0, 14-0-0) looks forward to hosting a semifinal game of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Farquhar Field.  As the top seed, Redlands faces Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, which finished tied for third in the standings but will compete as the fourth seed in the tournament.
