After rescheduling Saturday's match due to wet conditions, the University of Redlands women's tennis team competed in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown against Occidental College on Sunday and dominated the competition with a 9-0 rout.
The Bulldogs initiated the scoring with a 3-0 sweep in doubles. Seniors Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 position, with the No. 2 tandem of freshman Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Julia Galbraith (Tacoma, WA) quickly following with an 8-2 victory. Freshman Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) and sophomore Amanda Alvarez (West Covina, CA) nabbed the team's third point with an 8-5 performance at No. 3.
In singles, Redlands continued to roll, earning five victories in straight sets. Press took down her No. 4 opponent by scores of 6-1, 6-0, and then Yoshinaga clinched the team's win with her 6-0, 6-0 showing at No. 3.
Redlands (2-1, 1-0 SCIAC) faces a busy week of competition with three matches, beginning at home with Wednesday's 2 p.m. tilt against Brandeis University (MA).
