The No. 24 University of Redlands women's tennis team captured a 7-2 victory over Whittier College in Saturday's final Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) dual match of the season.
The Bulldogs grabbed the first two doubles points with solid results. The No. 1 duo of seniors Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) rolled to an 8-2 win before freshman Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Julia Galbraith (Tacoma, WA) took down their No. 2 counterparts by a score of 8-4.
Despite faltering at the No. 3 doubles spot, Redlands quickly rebounded with wins in five of the six singles matches. Miller led the charge with her 6-3, 6-1 showing at the top spot, while freshman Paige Press (La Jolla, CA) cruised to a shutout victory at No. 5. Ly notched the decided point with her 6-2, 6-1 performance at No. 2.
In addition, junior Katherine Guimapang (Norwalk, CA) and Galbraith recorded single points for the Maroon and Gray.
Redlands (10-7, 5-2 SCIAC) enters the SCIAC Championship Tournament as the No. 3 seed and faces off against sixth-seeded Occidental College in the opening match on Friday, April 22.
