Box Score The No.18 University of Redlands women's soccer team suffered
its first loss of the 2011 season earlier today, falling to
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges by a score of 0-2 in Claremont. This marks
the Maroon and Gray's first loss to the Sagehens since Oct. 28,
2009.
The Bulldogs allowed the first goal of the contest with 14:30
left in the first half as Sagehen sophomore midfielder Erin Edmonds
(Salem, OR) hit a quick one-timer.
Redlands looked to respond after halftime when freshman
midfielder Devin Wright
(Upland, CA) gave UR its best scoring opportunity at the
77:20-mark. Wright placed a corner kick in great position but the
sophomore goalkeeper Emma Wolfarth (Arlington, VA) punched the ball
away at the last minute, wiping away the Bulldogs' scoring chance.
Senior forward Fionna
Connolly (Salem, OR) set up the corner kick with a strong play
up the left sideline by beating several oncoming defenders.
Pomona-Pitzer iced the game moments later when senior midfielder
Traci Lopez (Santa Fe, NM) pushed across a goal with only 6:59
remaining.
Looking to bounce back, the U of R travels to Thousand Oaks on
Saturday to take on No.14 Cal Lutheran University at 1 p.m.
