On Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Farquhar Field, the University of Redlands women's soccer team was downed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in overtime, losing by a final score of 0-1.  Despite the loss, the Bulldogs still hold a one-point lead over Chapman University for third place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

Donning its pink jerseys, the Maroon and Gray almost took the lead in the first half when sophomore forward Sierra Duarte (Portland, OR) had a breakaway opportunity, but her shot was stopped by the Athenas' sophomore goalkeeper Molly Freed (Seattle, WA).

Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, junior defender Megan Marks (Boise, ID) received two yellow cards in the first half, causing Redlands to have to play the rest of the match with just 10 players.

Despite playing a good portion of the first half down a player, the Bulldogs ended up out-shooting the Athenas, 8-2, in addition to winning the corner-kick battle, 2-1.

The second half saw a strong defensive effort from both squads, as neither was able to get on the board, sending the game to a golden-goal overtime period. 

CMS finally found the back of the net when senior midfielder Annie Belanger (Oakland, CA) reacted first to a loose ball, 16 yards from goal, and ripped it into the top-left corner for the Athenas' overtime victory.

Bulldog junior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) played a solid second stanza for the Maroon and Gray, tallying four timely saves while allowing zero goals.

Freshman midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) led the Bulldogs' attack with four shots on the evening.

Redlands (8-4-2, 6-4-1) takes to the road on Saturday when it faces off with the University of La Verne.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
