The No. 14 University of Redlands men's tennis team recorded an important in-region win over the visiting Panthers of Chapman University on Saturday, prevailing by a score of 7-2. While handily winning two of the doubles matches, the Bulldogs captured straight-set outcomes in four of their five singles triumphs.
The teams traded punches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions in doubles, as the No. 2 tandem of freshmen Nick Cummins (Rancho Mirage, CA) and Teddy Jones (St. Louis, MO) recorded an 8-2 win for the Maroon and Gray.
The top duo of freshman Patrick Lipscomb (Irvine, CA) and senior Mark Bloom (San Juan Capistrano, CA) came away with an 8-3 showing, giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Redlands collected victories in five of the first singles matches, with freshman Taylor Hunt (Seattle, WA) dominating his No. 6 opponent, 6-0, 6-0, for his team's third overall point.
Junior Anish Nanda (Cerritos, CA) kept the momentum with the Maroon and Gray when he finished out a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 slot.
Cummins earned the deciding point at No. 2, defeating his counterpart by scores of 6-3, 6-0.
In addition, Bloom and junior Darren Dahl (Westlake Village, CA) contributed triumphs at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.
Redlands (13-5, 1-1 SCIAC) resumes Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action on Friday when it travels to Pasadena for a 2 p.m. showdown against Caltech.
