The 27th-ranked University of Redlands women's tennis team polished off the visiting Beavers of Caltech in Friday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match by a solid score of 8-1.
The Bulldogs captured all three doubles points as the top team of sophomore Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and junior Shannon Cassidy (Yuba City, CA) along with the No. 3 duo of senior Katherine Guimapang (Norwalk, CA) and junior Amanda Alvarez (West Covina, CA)) collected impressive 8-1 wins. Freshmen Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) and Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) secured the doubles sweep for Redlands, registering an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Redlands continued to roll in singles, winning five of the six matches. Cassidy emerged victorious at the No. 2 slot without dropping a single game, while Guimapang prevailed at No. 4 by impressive scores of 6-2, 6-0.
Pollak, Alvarez, and junior Cladia Llanes (Miami Beach, CA) also recorded triumphs in straight sets for the Bulldogs.
Redlands (10-4, 3-0 SCIAC) hosts Cal Lutheran University on Wed., April 11, at 4 p.m. in a make-up match from March 17, which was rained out.
