Box Score The University of Redlands women's soccer team fell to the University of La Verne on the road on Wednesday evening, in overtime, 0-1. For the Bulldogs, it was the third-consecutive overtime contest and the fourth overall on the campaign.
Redlands threatened offensively from the start, registering a pair of corner kicks early on. Both teams' defenses held strong for the first 45 minutes, however, and by halftime the score was level at 0-0. The U of R outshot the Leopards during the first half, 3-2, and held a significant advantage in corner kicks, racking up six to just one for La Verne.
In the second stanza, both teams traded numerous opportunities with nine shots recorded on each side. Bulldog senior goalkeeper Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA) registered three important saves for Redlands during the second half, keeping the game tied heading into overtime.
The Leopards (4-4-1, 1-1-1 SCIAC) finally found the breakthrough to win the game in the final minute of the first overtime, however, when Christine Camacho found the back of the net for La Verne, ending the contest.
On the night, the Leopards outshot Redlands, 13-12, while the Bulldogs held a substantial edge in the corner-kick battle, 9-2. Leading the U of R attack was sophomore midfielder Savannah Laursen (Boise, ID) with six shots, four of which went on frame. In addition, fellow sophomore midfielder Cassie Lively (Redmond, WA) provided the Maroon and Gray with three shots.
Redlands (1-5-1, 1-2-0 SCIAC) competes next on Saturday when it travels to Whittier College to take on the Poets. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
