The No. 18 University of Redlands women's tennis team hit the road for the second day in a row, traveling to Anaheim Hills Racquet Club to take on the No. 33 Chapman University Panthers in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match. With a total-team effort, the Bulldogs garnered an exciting 8-1 win by sweeping the doubles and prevailing in five straight-set singles matches.
After junior Gabriela Vasquez (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and senior Maddie Morton (Henderson, NV) put up an impressive 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles, the remaining matches both eked out 9-7 decisions. Senior Julia Pollak (Holland, PA) and junior Lauren Villanueva (El Segundo, CA) rallied to win at No. 2, before senior Ceara Sumida (Hilo, HI) and junior Natalie Etchegaray (Placentia, CA) came out on top at No. 1.
Vasquez and Etchegaray combined forces to secure Redlands' overall win by cruising to victories in straight sets at Nos. 5 and 1, respectively. Vasquez took down her counterpart, 6-0, 6-0, while Etchegaray registered a 6-3, 6-2 win.
In addition, Pollak, Villanueva, and sophomore Emily Murnin (Salt Lake City, UT) bested their respective foes at Nos. 6, 3, and 4.
Redlands (10-5, 3-1 SCIAC) returns home to the friendly surroundings at Verdieck Courts on Friday, April 3, for a conference match against the fifth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas at 2 p.m.
