No. 35 Redlands Women's Tennis Tames the Tigers Twice with Sweeps of Colorado College and Occidental College

The No. 35 University of Redlands women's tennis team completed a double sweep of two Tiger teams on a busy Saturday on Verdieck Courts.  First, the Bulldogs cruised to a 9-0 triumph over in-region foe Colorado College and then earned the same result against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competitor Occidental College.

Against the Colorado Tigers, the Bulldogs stormed out to a quick lead with solid results in doubles.  The No. 3 tandem of junior Madison Ross (San Diego, CA) and first-year Karen Kobayashi (Sappora, Japan) set the tone with an efficient 8-3 victory.  The top duo of junior Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) and sophomore Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) put together an 8-6 win before sophomore Jackie Lacy (Palm Desert, CA) and junior Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory at No. 2.

In singles, Ross kept things rolling with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the No. 6 slot, while Ikioka clinched the Bulldogs' victory by defeating the No. 1 counterpart, 6-2, 6-3.

Johnson, Lacy, Dolan, and first-year Lexi Lehman (Scottsdale, AZ) also registered straight-set singles wins for the Maroon and Gray.

Redlands continued to impress in its afternoon tilt against the Tigers of Occidental.  Dolan and Kobayashi combined efforts for an impressive 8-0 win at the No. 3 slot to put the home team on the board.  Ross and Lacy made quick work of their No. 2 opponents with an 8-3 decision, as Ikioka and Johnson fired off an 8-2 showing at the No. 1 position for the Maroon and Gray's early 3-0 lead.

In singles, it was much of the same, with Kobayashi providing a 6-1, 6-0 performance at No. 5 before Lehman sealed the deal on the Bulldogs' win with a shutout showing at No. 3.

Furthermore, Ikioka, Lacy, Dolan, and senior Julia Haussmann (Seattle, WA) each won their respective singles matches.

Redlands (3-0, 2-0 SCIAC) looks forward to hosting No. 19 Brandeis University (MA) in non-conference action on Thursday, February 22, at 2 p.m. on Verdieck Courts.
