LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming & Diving teams opened up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition Saturday with a dominant sweep against the University of La Verne.
Men
The Bulldogs took 15 event wins and won their dual with the Leopards 214-32.
Redlands won the 200 Yard Medley Relay led by Garrett Krattiger (Helena, MT), Davis Wingard (Springfield, OR), Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV), and Memphis Gile (Redlands, CA) who combined to swim a 1:38.60.
Krattiger added an individual win in the 200 Free in 1:50.16, leading after each split. Then in the 200 Back he swam a 1:57.27 and won by nearly eight seconds.
Wingard also had a win in the 200 Breast after swimming a 2:16.07. Chir won the 100 Breast (59.77), took second in the 200 Back (2:05.23), and won the 200 IM (2:00.08). Gile took the win in the 50 Free (22.02) and the 100 Free (48.65).
William Coziahr (Chula Vista, CA) won the 1000 Free in 11:07.06. Nick Barner (Los Angeles, CA) won the 100 Back in 54.60, 3.46 seconds faster than second place. Landynn Olivas (El Centro, CA) won the 200 Fly in 2:06.17 and the 100 Fly (55.52) and David Basa (Hoffman, Ill.) won the 500 Free in 5:10.25.
The 200 Free Relay win came in 1:32.03, consisting of Krattiger, Barner, Basa, and Gile.
On the 1-Meter board Conor Wherry (Denver, CO) won with a score of 279.60.
Women
The Bulldog women took care of business with a 169-63 win on Saturday thanks to 13 event victories.
Things got started with their 200 Medley Relay team of Ana-Adela Duran (Albuquerque, NM), Morgan Felix (Burnt Hills, NY), Abby Springer (Paso Robles, CA), and Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) who won with a 1:58.09.
Duran added individual wins in the 100 Back (1:04.97) and 200 Back (2:19.08). Springer won the 500 Free in 5:46.95 and Wells picked up a pair of key wins in the 50 Free (26.08) and 100 Free (55.91).
Rylie Kohl (Eastvale, CA) took home the win in the 1000 Free in 12:21.58. Kaile Itow (Morgan Hill, CA), one of the many freshmen on the squad, was the top finisher in the full field of eight in the 200 Free (2:04.24). Lina Matera (Hingham, MA) swam a 1:13.03 and took the 100 Breast win and backed it up with the 200 Breast win (2:41.28) and a 200 IM top finish (2:22.12). Roxanne Williams (Yucaipa, CA) finished her 100 Fly in 1:03.28 as she picked up another win on the morning.
After starting with a win in a relay, the Bulldogs would end the day with a win in the 200 Free Relay (1:46.29), coming from Wells, Williams, Springer, and Itow.
Redlands now preps to host Chapman University this coming Saturday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. inside the Thompson Aquatic Center.
