CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Track and Field team currently sits in second place and only five points behind Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship leader Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS). They are clear of host and third place Pomona-Pitzer by 19 points.
The first competition of the day was the Heptathlon where the competitors completed four of the seven events: 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, and the 200m.
After day one Elisabeth Eichinger (Yucaipa, CA) is in first place by 89 points over a Chapman University athlete totaling 2667 points. She took second place in the 100m Hurdles (15.40, Personal Best), fourth in the High Jump (1.46m, Personal Best), first in the Shot Put (9.98m), and second in the 200m (26.29, Personal Best).
Gift James and Shaylee Heron (Lake Havasu, CA) are seventh and eighth with 1762 and 1747 points, respectively. James' top event was the 200m (27.90), where she posted a personal best time securing 639 points. Heron was the most successful in the 100m Hurdles (17.32) as she picked up 561 points.
The only scoring events on day one came from the field events and longer distance races.
In the Javelin Timony Sherry (Shoreline, WA) took fourth place adding five points for the Bulldogs after her second attempt went 33.61m (110' 6"), a new personal best mark.
In the Hammer Leslie Sernaque Falcon (Concord, CA) took third, Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA) in sixth, and Grace Beaty (Upland, CA) finishing eighth as the trio added another 10 points to the Bulldog team total.
Sernaque Falcon threw 44.88m (147' 3") on her second attempt of the day as she makes All-SCIAC in the event. Chavez also posted her best mark on her second throw as she threw 40.01m (131' 3"), a new personal best. Beaty's best throw was on her third throw, traveling 37.22m (122' 1").
The Bulldogs continued to dominate the Long Jump as they finished with four of the top-six competitors, including the top-two finishers.
Maigan Adams (Los Angeles, CA) won the event with a 5.62m (18' 5.25") jump on her final attempt. With the win she scored 10 team points and an All-SCIAC spot.
Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA) was second with a new personal best of 5.50m (18' 0.5"), which was on her fourth attempt as she secures an All-SCIAC spot and another eight points. She also moved into eighth place all-time in program history.
Eve Mavy (Thayne, WY) got a big six points in the 3000m Steeplechase as she ran an 11:27.81 placing third, while earning All-SCIAC recognition. She improves her personal best by almost eight seconds.
In the prelims of the 100m Hurdles Bachmeier will be the No. 1 seed in the finals after blowing away the competition with a 14.70, 0.57 seconds ahead of the No. 2 seed from CMS. Joining Bachmeier in the finals will be Eichinger who was seventh in 16.32. It was her second hurdles event of the day after the Heptathlon earlier.
Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and Faith Kasper (Menifee, CA) qualified for the 400m as they took fourth and fifth. Semmere qualified with a 57.74, a new personal best and the ninth fastest all-time. Kasper ran a 58.73, a personal best.
Semmere also qualified for the 200m as she ran a 25.54, a personal best, and will be the No. 5 seed.
Adams will score more points Sunday for the Bulldogs in the 100m as she is the No. 2 seed after running a 12.35, which was a personal best.
CeCe Matteson (Seattle, WA) snuck into the finals of the 800m in 2:23.23 as she will be the No. 8 seed and the lone Bulldog in the final.
Bachmeier is the No. 2 seed in the 400m Hurdles final with a time of 1:06.10 as the winner of the first heat.
The Bulldogs return with the last three events of the Heptathlon at 11:00 a.m. Sunday. The field events start at 2:00 p.m. and the running events at 3:30 p.m. on the second and final day of the SCIAC Championships.
