CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Track and Field teams posted a combined 27 Top-10 finishes at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on Saturday.
Men
The Bulldog men had 14 Top-10 finishes coming from Ronan Byrne (Portola Valley, CA), David Huggins (Texarkana, TX), Gael Orozco (Claremont, CA), Nathan Mestre (Chula Vista, CA), Stian Asper (St. Pual, MN), Brandon Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA), Brock Norseth (Sandy, UT), the 4x100 relay team, Owen Schmitz (Fremont, CA), Jack Gordon (Las Vegas, NV), Nikolas Sorich (San Jose, CA), Tyler Davies (Lake Forest, CA), Wyatt Gibson (San Jose, CA), and Christian Ferguson.
Byrne was the runner up in the 800m with a new personal best of 1:53.43, 7.49 seconds faster than last weekend during the rainy, cold Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 2 hosted by the Bulldogs.
Huggins also ran a personal best as he took sixth in the 5000m with a time of 15:29.67, more than six seconds faster than last week.
Orozco ran the 110m Hurdles in 16.24 seconds finishing 10th.
The success in the hurdles continued with Mestre as he was sixth in the 400m Hurdles with a new personal best time of 57.26.
A trio of Bulldogs finished in the Top-10 of the 3000m Steeplechase as Asper was fourth at 9:42.16, B. Farnsworth was eighth in 9:59.09, and Norseth was ninth in 10:02.19. Asper and Norseth each had personal best times.
The 4x100 relay team of Jaiden Coleman (Las Vegas, NV), Derek Pangilinan, Patrick Lang II (San Antonio, TX), and Jenner Sherman (Eguene, OR) ran a 42.84 taking eighth.
Schmitz was the lone Bulldog to have multiple Top-10 finishes as he was the runner up in the High Jump at 1.95m (6' 4.75") and set a new personal best of 6.49m (21' 3.5") in the Long Jump as he was the fourth place finisher.
Gordon cleared his third height of 4.50m (14' 9") in the Pole Vault, good for third.
A few spots behind Schmitz in the Long Jump was Sorich in eighth with a jump of 6.16m (20' 2.5") on his fourth and final attempt after fouling the first three.
Davies fouled his first two throws of the shot put before throwing 14.19m (46' 6.75"), putting him in sixth.
Ferguson was ninth in the Hammer with a throw of 40.80m (133' 10") coming on his second attempt of the event.
Women
The Bulldog women had 13 Top-10 finishes. They came from Eve Mavy (Thayne, WY), the 4x100 relay team, Madison Eaton (Rocklin, CA), Lily James (Ojai, CA), Maigan Adams (Los Angeles, CA), Christen Wiley (South San Francisco, CA), Shaylee Heron (Lake Havasu, CA), Timony Sherry (Shoreline, WA), Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA), Leslie Sernaque Falcon (Concord, CA), and Caeli Havel (Pahrump, NV).
Mavy ran a personal best time of 11:35.76 in the 3000m Steeplechase as she took second place.
In the 4x100 relay the quartet of Adams, Faith Kasper (Menifee, CA), Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA), and JJ Kaczorowski (Cataumet, MA) took sixth in 49.83.
Eaton cleared 1.45m (4' 9") in the High Jump as she was the eighth place finisher.
James successfully cleared her first three heights of the Pole Vault on her first attempt before failing to clear 3.10m as she finished in sixth at 2.95m (9' 8").
Adams was the Long Jump runner up after jumping 5.25m (17' 2.75") on her final attempt after three fouls.
Wiley was fourth in the Long Jump with a third jump of 5.24m (17' 2.25").
Heron took seventh in the Triple Jump and posted a mark of 10.25m (33' 7.5") on her third jump.
The fourth place finisher of the Shot Put was Sherry who posted her mark of 12.40m (40' 8.25") on her final attempt.
Havel threw 10.95m (35' 11.25") as she took 10th in the Shot Put. She also posted a Top-10 finish in the Discus as she was seventh with a third throw of 36.36m (119' 3").
Chavez added another second place finish to the Bulldogs' total as she threw 40.93m (134' 3") in the Discus.
Sernaque Falcon was sixth in the Discus thanks to a fourth attempt throw of 37.22m (122' 1"). She joined Havel with a second Top-10 mark in the throws as she took third in the Hammer on the strength of a first throw at 42.12m (138' 2").
Redlands will have a pair of meets next Saturday, April 13 as some athletes will head to Azusa for the Brian Clay Invitational and others will go to SCIAC No. 3 hosted by Whittier College.
