PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming and Diving teams opened the 2025 portion of their schedule at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Caltech-California Lutheran University (CLU) tri-meet over the weekend where they dropped both match-ups on both the men's and women's sides.
Men
The Bulldogs dropped a competitive duel to Cal Lutheran 144-123 and dropped their match-up with the host Beavers 192-87.
Garrett Krattiger (Helena, MT) had the best afternoon for Redlands winning the 100 Back (51.93) and the 200 Back (1:53.99).
He then helped the Bulldogs take third in the 400 Free Relay swimming the lead off leg with a season best time of 48.43. The quartet also included David Basa (Hoffman, Ill.), Joey Madigan (Arlington, VA), and Memphis Gile (Redlands, CA) finished in 3:15.39, only 0.86 seconds back of second place Caltech and 0.99 behind CLU.
In the 200 Medley Relay the Bulldogs finished third (1:37.18) with Krattiger, Davis Wingard (Springfield, OR), Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV), and Gile competing.
Madigan won the 1000 Free after finishing in 10:16.24. He also took third in the 500 Free with a time of 4:59.35.
Other notable performances came from Chir who won the 200 IM (1:58.77) and Gile who won the 100 Free (47.75) and was the 50 Free runner-up (21.88).
Women
The Bulldogs fell 217-76 against the Regals and then 194-99 to the Beavers.
Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) put together another strong meet as she finished third in the 50 and 100 Free, swimming a 25.33 in the 50 and a 56.05 in the 100.
She also led the Bulldogs to a third place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:56.28) as the anchor leg on the quartet of Ana-Adela Duran (Albuquerque, NM), Lina Matera (Hingham, MA), and Roxanne Williams (Yucaipa, CA). Then in the 400 Free Relay she swam leadoff for Kaile Itow (Morgan Hill, CA), Williams, and Abby Springer (Paso Robles, CA) who combined for a time of 3:51.78 and a third place finish.
Kileigh Ackerman (Evergreen, CO) had a great day with wins in the 100 and 200 Back. She swam a 1:01.98 in the 100 and a season best time of 2:14.73 in the 200.
Itow added a fourth place finish in the 200 Free (2:05.10) and Williams had a pair of fifth place finishes in the 50 Free (26.69) and 100 Fly (1:03.76).
Redlands visits Pomona-Pitzer this Saturday, January 11 at 10:30 a.m. for their final regular season road meet.
