MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – Through two days of the four-day Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming and Diving Championships the University of Redlands sits in sixth place in the men's standings and seventh place in the women's standings after 15 events.
Day 1 (Results)
The men's team finished the first day and the first six events in seventh place with 58 points. They were within 27 points of Caltech for fourth place.
In the relay portion of the swimming events, the U of R earned a sixth place finish from Garrett Krattiger (Helena, MT), Davis Wingard (Springfield, OR), Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV), and Memphis Gile (Redlands, CA) in the 200 Medley Relay after they ended with a 1:32.14. That time is the third fastest in program history and one of only three times in the Top-10 from the 2020's.
Then Krattiger, Chir, Joey Madigan (Arlington, VA), and Wingard combined to swim a 6:58.84 taking seventh place in the 800 Free Relay.
The women sat in eighth with 48 points. Their climb up will be a little more difficult than the men's with a 30-point gap to sixth place Occidental College.
In the first relay they were led by Ana-Adela Duran (Albuquerque, N.M. ), Lina Matera (Hingham, MA), Roxanne Williams (Yucaipa, CA), and Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) who finished their 200 Medley Relay in 1:51.00 placing eighth.
Williams, Kaile Itow (Morgan Hill, CA), Andrea Brenstrom (Shrewsbury, MA), and Abby Springer (Paso Robles, CA) finished eighth in 8:15.63 in the 800 Free Relay.
Day 2 (Results)
The men, like expected with no divers to score points the first day and more swimming events occuring on the second day, moved up two spots into sixth place with 120 points. They are within 19 points of fourth place Occidental and 14 of fifth place Whittier College.
Krattiger came through in the 500 Free as he took sixth with a 4:37.49. Chir also made the A-Final for the 200 IM where he finished seventh in 1:52.79.
In another relay the Bulldog men took seventh in the 200 Free. The quartet of Kadyn Butcher (Vancouver, WA), Cole Goyette (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), Zack Gissel (Beaumont, CA), and Gile swam a 1:24.81.
On the women's side the Bulldogs remain in seventh place, improving their point total by 25. They will look to start reeling in Occidental who are 59 points clear, while they try to hold off Whittier who trail by only two points.
In the 200 IM Matera took 11th in 2:09.59. Her time is a new personal best and the seventh fastest in program history.
Williams, Matera, Itow, and Wells combined to finish the 200 Free Relay in 1:40.13 as they took sixth place.
The Bulldogs will return to the competition pool tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. as the SCIAC Championships begin the day with prelims of the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, and 400 Medley Relay.
